Why choose organic fruit & veggies for you and your family??
This is a common question. After all, if you’ve not eaten organic food before, you might be wondering what the big deal is!
There are a whole heap of reasons why we choose to farm organically, and why our people choose to eat organic produce.
Here are a few of the biggies that stand out:
Nutrition
Organic food often contains more nutrients than conventionally produced food. There have been multiple studies that show organically grown fruit & vegetables have more vitamins, minerals, enzymes and micronutrients than conventionally grown food. It's also generally fresher than the conventional counterpart due to a local supply chain and shorter storage times. Harvested fresh and in your fridge in a fraction of the time that conventional produce takes means higher nutrition!
Safe
Choosing to eat organic means no GMO’s, fewer toxins, and reduced chemical contamination. As a certified organic farm, we don't use genetically modified seeds, plus there’s no pesticides or herbicides used in production. We do lots of things by hand (like weeding and harvesting).
Our society is surrounded by so may toxins generally, if we can choose to consume safe organic produce, it does wonders for our health, gut microbiome and overall body and mind.
Taste
Organic food tastes better! It's full of amazing minerals and energy that literally makes it more flavourful. Remember that tomato you enjoyed as a kid....compare that to the watery ones you buy in the supermarket now. Conventional produce is so highly modified and sprayed it renders flavour as such a low priority. Food should taste amazing, and organic food celebrates flavour!
Support Local Farmers and Communities
Choosing organic often goes hand in hand with supporting local small scale growers. Real people who have a passion and drive to make the world a better place! This also means you’re supporting the health of farm workers and healthy communities. Organic farming doesn’t expose surrounding lands and farmworkers to dangerous pesticides or herbicides, which is good for everyone.
Environment
Organically grown food protects wildlife, promotes healthy waterways, and supports a healthy planet. A big threat to many pollinators (such as bees 🐝 ) is exposure to chemicals used in conventionally produced food. Conventional farming can also result in sewage runoff and depleted soils.
Organic farming can even help to mitigate climate change as it supports carbon sequestration (which means the soil naturally holds more carbon, keeping it out of the atmosphere. A big win!!).
